I choose surfing, rugby and cricket as the sports that the character plays as they are one of the popular  sports in South Africa. I plan to adjust the colours on the image later.

Originally, I remain brown colour on the rabbit's body to show that it is a riverine rabbit. But as the suggests that the characters do not have to be realistic. I shift the colour to blue to show it's riverine nature in a different way. I tried to reveal the colours on the South Africa flag on my characters. I thought the yellow and green colour on it are too saturated which I really need to change later. As my tutor suggests, the consistency of black lines and the colour options need to be improved. The iconic pattern is lack on the rabbit's body. As a whole, characters still need more details at this stage.

The comtemperary design of macsots will be: lion character as embodiment of male, riverine rabbit as the embodiment of female, cape elephant shrem as the emboidment of paraplegic athlete and double collared sunbird for the public supporter. As the characters are supposed to apply across multiple platform. I try to personify the characters in compasion to the original silhouette prototype.  Riverine Rabbit  cape elephant shrew lion When i start to design the character after the silhouette study. I realise that the animal mascot need more details to further match the cultural context and be personified.  As lion is one of the big five in South Afria. I thought it will be a good prototype for the male character. Initally, i plan to use the african penguin as the prototype of the mascot of the public supporter.  Leopard as the female character.

As the cheetahs in the zoo are sleeping. I just take some photos of the other animals. I think it is easier for understanding the structure of cheetah by researching the drawing on the info board as the real ones are all laying on the ground.
